First Baptist Church has partnered with Habitat for Humanity for a number of years. Local Habitat for Humanity offices are housed in the Jo Ann Carter
Harrelson Center adjacent to our church downtown. Through community building efforts, Habitat for Humanity provides decent, affordable housing for individuals who assist in the construction of their own home. These families assume a no-interest mortgage to pay for the construction costs of the house. In 2007, FBC partnered with Pine Valley UMC to build a Habitat home in Wilmington. In April 2008, a team from First Baptist traveled to the Gulf Coast of Louisiana in partnership with the Baptist World Alliance and Habitat for Humanity to build a home for a family left homeless by Hurricane Rita. For more information on how you can get involved with Habitat for Humanity, please contact Barbara Birkenheuer, Executive Director, at (910) 762-4744.
