April 2008 Habitat for Humanity Build--Louisiana
First Baptist Church sent a team to Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, to participate in the “BWA Blitz Build,” a joint effort between the Baptist World Alliance (BWA) and the Lafayette affiliate of Habitat for Humanity in April 2008. More This group’s focus was to build six homes in southwest Louisiana for families affected by Hurricane Rita, a category five storm that hit the Gulf Coast in September 2005. Baptist World Aid, the relief and development arm of the BWA, provided funds toward the construction of three of the homes to be built during the Blitz. First Baptist Church is one of three BWA Global Impact Churches that contributed money needed for the additional three homes. Volunteers from several Baptist churches helped with the building.
July 2008 Youth Mission Trip to Nada, Kentucky
One of the most rewarding moments of the trip was providing a woman with running water in her home for the first time.
August 2008 Guatemala Mission Trip
Over our seven days in Guatemala, we built 20 homes. These 12 x 12 structures have only a concrete floor, tin siding and a tin roof, but they are a gift from God to the families who will occupy them. A gift that keeps their children from sleeping on mud floors. A gift that protects them from rain better than the corns stalk walls of their previous dwellings and protects their small amount of possessions that fit in one corner of the room with a door that locks. A gift that reminds them of God's love sent in the form of strangers who came and gave out of the love God has given them.
