| | | | | | Kurt Wachtel - Minister of Music | |
| | |
I may as well get this out of the way right up front - I’m a native of Ohio, so even after 35 years in the South I remain a “closet,” but faithful, Buckeyes fan. I enjoy participating in and watching all sports (to the consternation of my wife), but my first love has always been my God and making music. In college I majored in music education, graduating from a small school in Georgia, where I met my wife, Jean, who currently serves FBC as organist and plays keyboard in deepwater, our praise band. After working in industry and banking for 10 years, serving as a deacon, Sunday School Director, building committee member and employed as part-time Music Director, I answered God’s call to full-time music ministry in 1987. In 1992, after graduating from Southern Seminary in Louisville, Ky., serving a church in Georgia for 2 ½ years, I accepted the call from FBC Wilmington to become Minister of Music, where I have served for the past 17 years. I enjoy all types of music (with the possible exception of southern gospel - sorry) and you’ll find classical, Celtic, country, classic and alternative rock, and a wide variety of contemporary Christian on my I-pod. Jean and I have two sons: Tyler graduated from UNCW and UGA and is now working in Georgia. Seth, an alumnus of NC State, is currently a third year student at Southeastern Seminary and is faithfully supported (emotionally and financially) by his lovely wife, Jill who teaches at Trinity Academy in Raleigh. I love my God and leading others to experience His awesome presence and power through authentic, engaging worship. If I haven’t had the privilege of meeting you, please call me, e-mail me or just walk up, slap me on the back after worship and introduce yourself! I may look busy, but I’m never too occupied to meet someone new. And, if you’re interested in serving in music ministry or any facet of worship, nothing would please me more than to talk with you about your particular gifts and how they can be used effectively to God’s glory here at FBC.
Blessings,
