Journey
to the Cross, an online devotional for Lent.
One of the goals of our discipleship ministry is to help folks
to come to a place in their spiritual life where they are growing
on their own; where they are intentional and reflective in their
faith journey.
The ideas & resources
posted on this page are intended to help you in that journey. Some
will be simple, some will be thought provoking. They will be updated
frequently.
If you have an idea to share, we would love to hear it. We are
in this together. Email your idea or resource to jdavis@fbcwilmington.org.

Bible Study
One simple but helpful way to study a passage of Scripture on your
own is to ask three basic questions:
- What does this passage tell me about God?
- What does this passage tell me about humankind?
- What does this passage tell me about the relationship between
God and people or about the relationships between people?
Write down your answers to these questions as well as any other
things that stood out to you in the passage. Let those thoughts
‘percolate’ in your head for a day or two, and then
go back to your notes and write down at least one implication from
what you have learned. What one thing will you commit to do or change
as a result of the message you heard in this passage. Now…
do it!

Prayer
Prayer is speaking to God and listening for God to speak to us.
That is the miracle of our faith – that God would actually speak
to us! As we journey through our prayer series during April and May,
Prayer: It's the Network, we will be exploring the realities
and mysteries of prayer and engaging more deeply in prayer, both individually
and corporately.
There are many ways to pray, from a casual conversational style
to ancient practices that have helped Christians to stay close to
God over the centuries. On the Method X website, which is a part
of Upper Room Ministries, there are several prayer
methods described that may enrich your own prayer life,
including:
- The ancient practice of the Lectio Divina – listening
for God through reading of the Scripture
- Praying the Psalms
- Using Icons
- Personalizing Scripture
- “Remembering the Day”
What is your Spiritual Type?
