The downtown campus of First Baptist Church consists of four
interconnected building – the main Sanctuary, the Education
Building, the WLI Building and the Connector Building. A fifth building,
the Sidbury House, is located at 15 N. 5th Street, across the parking
lot behind the Education Building.

The Sanctuary, which was completed in 1870 and seats 700 people,
is located at the corner of 5th & Market Streets. Both Sunday
morning worship services are held in the Sanctuary.
The Education Building was built in the 1920s and wraps around
the Sanctuary with entrances on Market Street, to the left of the
Sanctuary, and on 5th Street. The Education Building houses our
nursery, children’s classrooms, some adult classrooms, the
Media Center, the Church Parlor, and Fireside Hall – our downtown
fellowship hall and kitchen.
The WLI Building, so named because it housed the Wilmington Light
Infantry at one time, faces Market Street between 4th & 5th
Streets. Purchased in 1997, this historic structure also housed
the original county library. The church offices are located in the
WLI Building, along with adult classrooms, the Chapel and the Youth
area.
Linking the WLI Building to the Education Building and the Sanctuary
is the Connector Building. Completed in 2001, the Connector Building
provides an open gathering space for members where FBC archives
material is displayed. Restrooms are located on both levels. The
Welcome Center is on the second
floor of the Connector Building and can be accessed directly from
Market Street by entering through the double doors in the plaza
area.
The Sidbury House was donated to the church and houses several
adult classrooms.
In addition to our own facilities, First Baptist Church rents space
from the Bellamy Mansion Museum on Sunday mornings to house several
of our adult Sunday School classes.
