| Discipleship is about becoming more like Jesus Christ.
As people who claim to be followers of Jesus, we try to learn his
ways, to think as he does, and to act as he would.
We don’t all go about this the same way. Some of us like
structured classes; others prefer immersion experiences. Some like
quiet study; others thrive on debating ideas. Most of us need mentors
to help us. All of us recognize the Bible as our sacred guide. And
for all of our best laid plans, life has a way of redirecting us
as we go!
The spiritual journey isn’t a neat and linear one. It is
more of a messy adventure, full of ups and downs, discoveries and
joys and disappointments.
Looking to the Future – The Discipleship Purpose Team
The greatest challenge facing our Discipleship Purpose Team as
we conduct our strategic planning for 2004-2006 is the development
of spiritual growth opportunities including, but also beyond classroom
experiences, for persons at different places in their faith journey
– from those who are seeking faith to the development of leaders.
Pray for our Discipleship Purpose Team as they think outside the
box as to what it takes to create an environment that challenges
believers to grow in their faith. Pray also that God would be calling
out persons to lead in these discipleship ministries.
Discipleship on the FBC Website
At First Baptist, we encourage everyone to find a group (Sunday
School, small
group, or other class)
where you can be nurtured in your faith and to find
a ministry where you can serve by using your spiritual
gifts. You will find great information to help you on your
spiritual journey in these areas in the Discipleship section of
our website.
Those who are still searching might check out our questions
page or explore what it means to become
a Christian. Those believers looking to grow in their faith
can find ideas on the personal
study and sharing
your story pages.
