Staff Transitions

The church is recognizing the retirement of Margaret Johnson-March 25, 2021 (18+ years) and Don Vigus, April 1, 2021 (42 years).  Both long term employees who made an impact in our church and community.  The Personnel Committee continues to work on a plan to properly celebrate these wonderful people.  Covid-19 restrictions continue to limit gatherings and contact, so we are delaying their public celebrations until late summer or fall.  We will give plenty of notice before their recognitions take place.  You will not want to miss!!!

March 25, 2021: Margaret Johnson, Activities Center Director

We love you Margaret! Announcing the Retirement of Margaret Johnson.  Margaret has been employed at the First Baptist Activities Center for over 18 years.  Her love for the AC and her love for her church has been demonstrated over and over again.  Her smiling face and willingness to be a great hostess to the numerous groups that use our building have created many front door opportunities for people to get to know First Baptist.  Margaret’s love for kayaking, dancing, and league sports have made her the perfect fit for being the Director for the Activity Center. April 1, 2021 : Rev. Don Vigus, Minister of Missions & College

43 Years of Ministry First Baptist Church

Celebrating the retirement (April 1, 2021) of Don Vigus. It is hard to know where to begin when highlighting the ministry of Don Vigus.  Don moved from Seminary in Ft. Worth Texas to First Baptist Church and he has never left, serving wholeheartedly for 43 years. Though he never left for another job, he left all the time for a trip, gathering or new adventure. South Africa, Hawaii, Guatemala, Bimini, San Juan, Haiti, are among the numerous places Don took us to share the love of Jesus in word and action.  He even took the church bus to the literal end on I-40 in California and visited almost every state.  It has been said that a picture is worth a 1000 words, so 1000 pictures must say all the words needed to express our deep appreciation to Don.  Please take the time to view Don’s ministry celebration slideshow and send him a note of gratitude to the church, 411 Market Street, Wilmington 28401.  The Personnel Committee will be honoring Don’s ministry and retirement at a later time so that the numerous people whom Don ministered to can hug his neck in person.
