We believe a healthy faith is a growing faith. Jesus said to His disciples,  “go, tell, baptize, and teach.” Living those commands takes discipline and determination not to settle in our faith but to constantly strive to grow in likeness of Christ. Following Jesus is a lifetime journey of learning to hear God, to lean on God and to be transformed by God. Thankfully, we don’t make this journey alone!

“And now just as you trusted Christ to save you, trust him, too, for each day’s problems; live in vital union with him. Let your roots grow down into him and draw up nourishment from him. See that you go on growing in the Lord, and become strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught. Let your lives overflow with joy and thanksgiving for all he has done.” – Colossians 2:6-7 (NLT)

The Discipleship Ministry at FBC is the place where faith and life connect! We share life with people who, like us, want to grow in Christlikeness so that we can better reflect God in the world and in the places where we live, work and play.

Special Needs

Sunday School | 10:00 am
God’s Squad is First Baptist’s Sunday School class for young adults with unique needs. Led by trained and caring adults, God’s Squad provides a loving atmosphere where young adults can learn and talk about their faith, share their joy, and build relationships with one another. God’s Squad brings acceptance and genuine love to all they meet.

Young Adults

Faith and life offer new challenges and exciting opportunities as upcoming professionals begin careers, develop new peer groups, ask questions and explore their place in the world.

The Gathering (Large Group) | 10am | Sundays | Join us Sundays at 10am as we explore Scripture and faith together and how they help us to navigate a sense of identity, belonging and purpose in the joys and challenges of relationships, family, work and all that comes along in this stage of life. Each month a new study will be taught by wonderful mentor/teachers, including Jim & ENan Baldwin, Mike & Bobbie Queen, and Anne & Mike Cockerham.

Our church is an incredible place for young adults to find community and pursue spiritual growth.

  • Small Group | 7pm | Wednesdays | Join us during the week as we gather to fellowship, build relationships, and experience life together. We primarily meet on Wednesday nights, but this can change based on what we are doing each week.

Senior Adults

We love Senior Adults! The corner-stone of our senior adult ministry is Tuesday Noon Church, midweek time of fellowship and worship. However, Senior Adults are also busy enjoying this season of life as they gather for day trips, like a boat cruise on the Cape Fear River or special lecture at Campbell Divinity School, and serving others through mission projects and ministry opportunities.

Along with our Deacons, the Senior Adult Ministry maintains connections with our homebound members, providing communion and care visits each month.

Tuesday Noon Church | 12:00 – 1:00 pm | Location: FBC Activities Center

TNC is more than a meal and midweek devotional time – it is faith, fun, food, friends and fellowship.

Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU) | 10:30 am  |  Activities Center | 2nd Tuesday each month

First Baptist has a long tradition of mission involvement through Woman’s Missionary Union. WMU’s purpose is to challenge, prepare and equip Christian believers to be radically involved in the mission of God. Join us to hear from missionaries on the work that God is up to in the world and how we can be a part of it.

“When reflecting on why I love my church so many things come to mind: my Sunday School Class, the opportunity to serve in the jail ministry, a great staff, wonderful worship and community gatherings, and great music.  I have enjoyed fellowship, growing via spiritual development in Bible studies and spiritual formation.  A staff that is willing to take time to listen and offer direction for challenges of faith and understanding of living the Christian life.  Love is all around me.” Phyllis
