Take a Look Inside
You are invited to take a glimpse into the life of First Baptist Church Wilmington

Becoming Fully Devoted
As a body of believers, we recognize that the image of God is best portrayed when we connect our journeys of faith together… through worshiping, growing in knowledge, building relationships and devoting our lives to serving others.
This is how we live out our mission of ‘becoming and helping others become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.’

A Place to Belong
We are a diverse group of people joined together to put God’s love in action. While some have a lifetime of faith experiences, others are just beginning their faith journey. All find a home in a church that is big enough for spiritual growth and service while intimate enough to build deep relationships.
Our congregation draws strength from our diversity. We are a multi-generational church with thriving ministries for children, youth, college, adults in their prime and active retirees. A growing number of people from Brunswick County, many of whom have chosen our community for their retirement years find friendships and life meaning just ‘across the bridge’ through FBC. We have a growing global identity as we are honored to welcome local Karen/Burmese refugees who have become a vital part of our congregation. Yet in all our diversity, we find unity in following Jesus together.

Living Life On Mission
Making a difference in our world is a huge part of our churches identity. Mission is not something we just do, mission is who we are! God’s mission is to put a broken world back together one person at a time and each one of us is invited to be a part of that mission. We focus on four different areas of local need: education, hunger and homelessness, incarceration, and refugees. Globally, we have enduring partnerships in Guatemala and South Africa and also send teams to other areas of need around the world. Expect to be changed and together we will change the world.
“First Baptist is family! The dear friends that have been made are treasures. The opportunities to worship our Lord and serve others fill my heart. Love Does!” Lynne

Shared Values and Beliefs
We believe Jesus Christ is our Savior and Lord. He teaches us how to live an abundant life, full of joy in service and in fellowship with God. We strive to put the risen Christ at the center of everything we do.
We believe the Bible is the Word of God. Scripture reveals God’s plan for salvation through Jesus Christ. It teaches us how to live, serve and become his disciples. With Christ as our guide, example, and interpreter of scriptures, we need no other mediator between us and God. Each day, through prayer and personal Bible study, we strive to deepen our relationship with God and our understanding of his purpose for us.
We believe Baptism and the Lord’s Supper (Communion) are symbolic celebrations of grace. Believer’s Baptism celebrates new life in Christ. The Lord’s Supper celebrates Christ’s sacrifice for us on the Cross.
We believe the Church is the body of Christ on Earth. A local congregation (church) is a fellowship of believers, not a building or institution. Each individual congregation is autonomous, yet part of the larger body of Christ with many expressions and locations. Believers achieve oneness in Christ that transcends all human limitations, including the differences that exist between denominations.
We believe in the Priesthood of all Believers. We ordain both men and women for any and every role of service in the church.
Whatever your heart’s desire, your faith back-ground, however you express worship, or whatever your passion in life, we invite you to journey in faith with us.
Our Relationship with Other Baptist Groups
As a part of our churches mission efforts, we partner with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship to send missionaries to places across the country and around the world.
