My star word this year is Passion. A feeling of excitement or energy for doing something—fervor, zeal, a stirring to act. As an 8 on the enneagram, passion describes me well—I am driven by an intensity to achieve, to support, and to serve.
I have carried the star in my purse since the day I received it. Although it is tattered now, I still see it daily as a reminder to be passionate about all that I endeavor. I have a passion for my work; I have the privilege of working in clinical research, an industry that is focused on improving the health and life of others. I have a passion for my church service. Leading my Sunday School class and serving as a deacon both fill me with energy. I have a passion for my family and friends. Supporting their efforts fills me with joy.
Romans 12:11 says: “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.” I am encouraged by this verse because it reminds us to pair our enthusiasm and our passion with a commitment to service.
Galatians 4:18 echoes this sentiment, saying “It is fine to be zealous, provided the purpose is good, and to be so always, not just when I am with you.” God is the source of our spiritual passion. Take time to find your passion this year.
