FEATURED INITIATIVE
Habitat for Humanity Build
Our church has built dozens of Habitat for Humanity houses since our partnership began in 1990. We have partnered with other churches in 3 Ecumenical Builds, joined volunteers of other faiths in an All Faith Build, taken part in two Racial Harmony Builds, two All Women’s Builds, built houses in Louisianna with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and travelled to Wayne County West Virginia to build. Additionally, we have built 14 houses in Wilmington on our own. Our next build will take place at 70 Old Mill Road, off Castle Hayne Road in the Wrightsboro Community.
We are scheduled to begin on Saturday, November 2. We will work from 7:45 am until 2 pm each Saturday. We need 25 construction volunteers for each Saturday. Lunches will be served on-site by volunteers from our church. The proposed schedule at this point is:
-
November 2 – Wall Raising
-
November 9 – Roof Sheathing
-
November 16 – Miscellaneous Framing
-
November 23 – Vinyl Siding Prep
You must register and complete a release form with Habitat for Humanity to work on site. Go to www.capefearhabitat.org to register. No construction experience is necessary. There will be something for everyone to do. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Please register ASAP so we can plan accordingly.
FEATURED PARTNER
Living Hope
In 2023, we partnered with Living Hope to convert our underutilized basement space into a day shelter. The shelter is open on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9AM to 1PM and provides help to our unhoused neighbors. The volunteers provide a comfortable place to rest, breakfast, coffee, and help connecting those in need with nearby non-profits.
LOCAL
Tuesday Night
Ministries
Every Tuesday Night, we serve a community meal to our neighbors. This ministry has expanded to include a shower trailer and clothing closet!
There are multiple ways to get involved with our Tuesday Night Ministry. We need volunteers to help with the cooking, serving, clothing closet, shower trailer, and more.
NATIONAL
CBF Partners
We have partnered with Missionaries around the country through our connection with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF). In 2022 our students traveled to Corbin, Kentucky and worked at the Baptist Housing facility, a 64 unit living facility for elderly and mobility-impaired adults.
In 2023, we partnered with Forest Hills Baptist Church and CBF’s very own Welcome House ministry to do what we called a “Tour de Welcome House.” Our teams got to hear from local Raleigh churches about what goes into creating a ‘Welcome House’ and the process that refugee families go through while adjusting to life in the States.
GLOBAL
Guatemala &
South Africa
We partner with GRACE Ministries in Chimaltenango, Guatemala to support their work through monetary donations and mission work. We typically travel to Guatemala twice per year to help build housing and other important infrastructure.
FBC is a part of the South Africa Network. We have made a commitment to several ministry partners in South Africa – to support the work they are doing, to provide resources as we can, and to go to South Africa and encourage them with whatever labor and words of affirmation are needed.
