“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.” – Ephesians 2:8

I was saved at a young age and baptized when 10 years old at the First Baptist Church in Morehead City. In my early 30s, my marriage fell apart, and I was at a crossroads about how to move forward with two young children to consider.

I prayed for wisdom and sought advice from Christian friends. I grew increasingly despondent and worried about choosing the right path.

At my lowest point I went to our Sunday evening church service and begged God for his reassurance and guidance. I could not tell you a word of the sermon or anything else during that service until the closing hymn.

That hymn was Amazing Grace and as I stood there listening to the singing, the words suddenly rang out in my soul “Tis grace that brought me safe thus far and grace will lead me home.” He reassured me with the promise that I was covered with His grace, and He would be with me through it all until He led me home.

Over the past 50 years I have been blessed with feeling His presence every time I hear that hymn. With His unique sense of humor, he gave a tone-deaf person a song to sing in my heart that reassures me anytime I am worried or frightened by life’s test and trials.

Praise God for His Amazing Grace and His enduring promises.
